Popularly known as the iPhone of Android operating system, OnePlus has launched 3 handsets in the OnePlus 9 Series. They include OnePlus 9, OnePlus 9 Pro and OnePlus 9R.
A quick look at the OnePlus 9R reveals that it is a revamped version of the OnePlus 8T. Thus, for ease, let us limit our discussion only to the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro.
After a few teasers, the Chinese consumer electronics manufacturer OnePlus has officially declared its association with iconic camera designer Hasselblad. This is the same company that designed cameras for Apollo 11 that landed on the moon.
Apart from the optics, Snapdragon 888 chipset is the USP of this flagship handset.
OnePlus 9 Pro Specifications:
The latest OnePlus 9 Pro sports a 6.7-inch QHD+ curved-edge Fluid Display 2.0 built on LPTO technology. As per the company, the new LPTO panel will consume 50% lesser power in general usage.
Supported by “Hyper Touch” technology, 120Hz refresh rate, 240Hz touch sampling rate and HDR10+ format, this seems to be designed for both gaming and content watching experience. It can support a max of 1300 nits of brightness and is awarded an A+ rating by DisplayMate.
Depending upon the content, the handset refresh rate changes automatically between 120Hz-1Hz. The max 120Hz refresh rate enables smooth UI whereas the min 1Hz is for always-on display mode.
Powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chipset and up to 12GB LPDDR5 RAM (standard 8GB RAM), it houses 256GB UFS 3.1 internal storage.
To facilitate long gaming hours, the handset is equipped with the “OnePlus Cool Play” that helps the device cool down. This is the same setup that one can observe in OnePlus 8T but with better graphite sheets and copper foil to absorb the generated heat.
Hasselblad Photo Colour Reproduction:
On the optics side, it sports a 48MP Sony IMX789 sensor equipped with dual native ISO, Digital Overlap HDR and OIS. The Hasselblad Pro mode finetunes the pics with a natural look portraying accurate colour. Interestingly, the main cam produces 12-bit RAW images and can even record 8K video at 30fps.
The 50MP Sony IMX766 ultra-wide-angle sensor is equally potent enough to produce freeform. The 8MP telephoto lens has 3.3X optical magnification. For monochrome shots, it is equipped with 2MP black and white camera. The other helps in macro shots at just a 4cm distance. Similarly, for selfies and video calling, there’s a 16MP camera at the front.
Coming to the battery section, the OnePlus 9 Pro comes with a 4500mAh battery and Warp Charge 50W Wireless support. Using it, a complete charge takes just 43 minutes. However, it should be brought separately.
There’s a standard wired charger supporting Warp Charge 65T that powers 100% charge in 29 minutes. If you are looking for a quick charge, it gives a 65% charge within 15 minutes.
Connectivity-wise, the OnePlus 9 Pro supports the latest specs including 5G, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, and USB Type-C port. Available in three different colours - Morning Mist, Pine Green, and Stellar Black, the handset is rated IP68 in terms of water and dust resistance.
Price, Availability and Competition:
The aluminium frame with 2 panes of glass makes it a super-premium in look and feel. Moreover, the new Pine Green makes it an adorable handset. The latest OnePlus 9 Pro is open for sale and is priced ₹64,999 ($970/€900) for the 8/128GB variant. However, the premium 12/256GB model costs ₹69,999 ($1070/€1000).
Though the OnePlus handset is an Amazon exclusive, the OnePlus 9 Pro can be purchased from other retail stores including Reliance Digital, Bajaj Electronics, and many more.
Though OnePlus is a good handset pricing seems to be a BIG concern. There’s a criticism that the OnePlus is a Chinese high-quality handset that comes with Apple pricing. In such a case, there are better alternatives like Samsung S21.
Moreover, the OnePlus 9 Pro is being marketed as Hasselblad optics. In reality, the hardware is Sony’s and the colour science and processing is done by Hasselblad.
