The South Korean electronics giant Samsung has launched Galaxy M12 in the Indian market. Powered by an Exynos chipset and a massive 6000mAh battery, this entry-level handset is priced at ₹9,999.

For the general public who don’t bother with great specs, this Samsung Galaxy M12 will sell like cupcakes. The main USP is a 6000mAh battery and 48MP quad-camera configuration. Samsung’s brand combined with great battery performance is enough for normal users.

Samsung Galaxy M12 Specifications:

Regarding specifications, the Samsung Galaxy M12 sports a 6.5-inch HD+ (720x1600p) TFT-Infinity V-Display. Supporting a 90Hz refresh rate, the screen is smooth enough for normal day-to-day activities.

Powered by an 8nm Exynos 850 chipset (2.0 GHz octa-core processor), the Samsung Galaxy M12 comes in 2 memory variants 4/64GB and 6/128GB. It comes with expandable storage of up to 1TB and thus has a dedicated microSD card slot.

On the optics front, there’s a 48MP quad-camera supported by ISOCELL plus technology. It includes a 48MP primary, 5MP ultra-wide, 2MP depth and 2MP macro sensor. Samsung has made little changes in its camera configuration for the Indian variant.

For selfies and video calling, there’s an 8MP front sensor. The handset also packs a side-mounted fingerprint sensor.

Available in Black, White and Blue colours, the handset has got a new Haze and Matt design. It boots Android 11 based on Samsung’s One UI 3.1 which is termed as clean and fast OS.

Samsung’s BIG Battery:

Backed by a mammoth 6000mAh battery and 15W charger in the box, the Samsung Galaxy M12 will definitely help the user to carry it for days. Due to its large battery, the handset weighs 221 grams which could be a negative sign.

On the connectivity front, it supports 4G LTE, USB Type-C port and 3.55 headphone jack. Starting March 18th, the Samsung Galaxy M12 is available for sale on the Amazon India portal. As per the latest information, there are 4 bundled packs namely ₹401, ₹501, ₹601 and ₹801 that offer online streaming content for free.

There’s a weekend data rollover facility as well on all the above listed prepaid plans. Say, for example, if you have unused data left on the weekdays, you can consume it on weekends (Saturday and Sunday).

Vi ₹401 Disney+ Hotstar VIP Prepaid Plan:

The smallest plan in Vi’s prepaid kitty to offer Disney+ Hostar VIP subscription is Vi ₹401. With daily 3GB data, unlimited voice calls and 100SMS per day, the Vi ₹401 validity is 28 days. As a promotional offer, Vi packs another 16GB of data with this ₹401 pack.

Vi ₹501 Disney+ Hotstar VIP Prepaid Plan:

This Vi ₹501 pack is a data-only recharge plan. It offers 75GB of data with 56 days of validity. Apart from that, this pack offers non-stop multiplex movies and Hotstar Specials with a Disney+ Hotstar VIP subscription.

Vi ₹601 Disney+ Hotstar VIP Prepaid Plan:

Oppo F19 Pro+ 5G Specifications:

The Oppo F19 Pro+ 5G handset sports a 6.43-inch AMOLED display with FHD+ resolution (2400×1080 pixels resolution) and a 60Hz refresh rate. It has an in-display fingerprint reader and the panel is protected by Gorilla Glass 5.

Spectrum auction sold after 5 years in the country ended on March 2. It lasted for two days and six bidding rounds in total. As per the Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Technology, a total of ₹77,814.80 crore bids has been filed for spectrum.

Reliance Jio became the largest bidder after the end of all six bidding rounds. Incidentally, the leading telecom operator Reliance Jio acquired spectrum in three bands namely 800 MHz, 1800 MHz and 2300 MHz in 22 circles across India.

Jio Leads from the Front:

Billionaire Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Jio has submitted the highest bids of ₹57,122.65 crores in the Spectrum Auction 2021. On the other hand, Sunil Bharti Mittal-led Bharti Airtel became the second-biggest bidder with ₹18,698.75 crores. While Vodafone-Idea that operates under the Vi brand is the least aggressive player with over ₹1993.4 crores in 5 circles.

Through this latest 2021 Spectrum Auction, the government has earned a total of ₹77,814.80 crores for the 855.60 MHz spectrum. Reliance Jio, Airtel and Vodafone Idea are the only bidders in the 2021 spectrum auction that had 700MHz, 800MHz, 900MHz, 1800MHz, 2100MHz, and 2300MHz bands on bidding.

Once again, there were no participants in the bidding of 700MHz and 2500MHz bands.

Jio Buys Most 4G Spectrum:

Reliance Jio has said in a separate statement that it has acquired the right to use spectrum in 22 circles across the country in the closing spectrum auction. The spectrum purchased will be useful for the transition to 5G services.

The latest spectrum auction is exclusively meant for 4G bands as the government is yet to kick off specific bidding for 5G networks.

With this new spectrum, Reliance Jio increases its spectrum footprint by 55% to 1717 MHz and has the largest spectrum holdings in Sub-GHz and 2300 MHz bands.

Pricing-wise, Reliance Jio will have to pay a total of ₹57122 crores. It includes an upfront payment of ₹8623 crores, ₹6231 crores and ₹5085 crores for the spectrum purchased in the 800 MHz band, 1800 MHz band and 2300 MHz band respectively.

Airtel has revealed that it has acquired 355.45 MHz spectrum mid-band and 2300 MHz band spectrum in the Sub-Giga Hertz category. The latest spectrum will cover additional 90 million subscribers.

Vodafone Idea Limited (VIL) has said that the latest spectrum 4G coverage in five circles will help improve its capability. This will provide more quality digital services and the business will be able to grow.

India, which once suffered from spectrum shortage, has now become a surplus country. It is praised that the government’s work is behind it. It will contribute to the goal of digital India of the central government.

It is to be noted that the Indian telecom network companies can use this spectrum for a period of 20 years. In a statement, the Telecom Ministry said that none has submitted bids for the 700 MHz band because of the high prices.

However, one can enjoy Jio Apps like JioTV, Jio Cinema, Jio Security and Jio News.

JioPhone ₹52 Plan:

The next higher JioPhone ₹52 comes with 6GB of 4G data. This is valid for 28 days. Post the usage of 6GB data, the speed comes down to 64Kbps.

JioPhone ₹72 Plan:

The JioPhone ₹72 plan ships a total of 14GB of 4GB data. However, it is to be noted that only 0.5GB of data is offered on daily basis. Post that limit, one can enjoy unlimited data at 64Kbps which is sufficient enough to send and read WhatsApp messages.

JioPhone ₹102 Plan:

The state-run telecom player BSNL has unveiled 3 new plans under the DSL Broadband segment. The PSU known for promoting Fibre-to-the-Home plans has also got DSL broadband plans in its kitty.

Though everyone talks about FTTH broadband, the BSNL has about 1 million subscribers under its Bharat Fiber out of the total 7 million wireline subscribers. The remaining 6 million BSNL broadband users are still on DSL plans.

Poor Average Internet Speed in India:

This is really a pathetic situation. When a country like Thailand can deliver an average speed of 220Mbps, India still remains at 52Mbps. It is mainly due to the poor bridging of urban and rural India.

Unlike modern Fibre broadband, the BSNL DSL broadband offers slow internet speeds. Earlier, it used to pack 2Mbps now these DSL broadband plans are upgraded to cater 10Mbps internet speed.

In a bid to provide better internet access, the PSU BSNL has introduced decent plans under the DSL broadband category. The 3 new plans under BSNL DSL broadband carry ₹299, ₹399 and ₹555 monthly rentals.

All the above plans do provide 10Mbps internet speed. However, they do differ in terms of data benefit. For installation, there will be a security deposit of ₹500 which is a nominal practice followed by the ailing PSU.

BSNL ₹299 DSL Broadband:

The BSNL ₹299 DSL broadband is popularly known as 100GB CUL. The name itself declares that the plan provides 10Mbps internet speed till 100GB. Post the usage, it comes down to 2Mbps.

As it is a promotional plan, the BSNL ₹299 DSL broadband will be available for only 6 months duration. Post the 6-month offer, the plan will be migrated to ₹399 DSL Broadband.

The user won’t be able to read or send messages from the App. However, the user can still receive calls and notifications. Read this is for a few weeks. The company didn’t disclose any time period for it.

Though there are no clear-cut guidelines regarding this time period, one has to keep in mind that WhatsApp automatically deletes the account if it is inactive for 120 days.

Due to this privacy backlash, WhatsApp has lost its subscriber base to Telegram and Signal. Leaving it aside, it is concrete that WhatsApp will be forcing the users to accept its new privacy policy.

Facing stiff competition from private telecom players, the MTNL has decided to extend the availability of 7 prepaid plans till May 13. The same has been confirmed by the state-run MTNL on its portal.

The MTNL who has a limited subscriber base in Mumbai and Delhi Telecom Circles has taken a decision to extend the availability of its popular plans for another 90 days. The recharge plans that received a 90-day extension are STV 153, STV 196, STV 259, STV 329, STV 399, STV 409 and PV 1499.

From the above-listed recharge plans, STV 259 and STV 409 will be available till May 17. Leaving them, the other 5 plans will be available for recharge till May 13, 2021.

PV 1499 Offers 730GB DATA:

Interestingly, PV 1499 is the most favoured recharge plan available from MTNL kitty. Not just in the MTNL product lineup, the PV 1499 is one of the best annual recharge plans across all the telecom companies. It offers daily 2GB data for a period of 365 days.

The PV 1499 recharge offers a total of 730GB in its validity period. In contrast, private telecom companies offer just 24GB of data benefit.

In an attempt to provide One Home strategy for DTH customers, Bharti Airtel acquired a 20% stake in Bharti Telemedia. The total valuation of this purchase is Rs 31,260 million (Rs 3,126 crore).

To the unaware, Bharti Airtel is the third leading service provider in the Indian DTH business after Tata Sky and Dish TV. It was in December 2017, Wargburg Pincus affiliate agreed to acquire a 20% equity stake in Bharti Telemedia Limited.

With this Bharti Airtel communicated the decision to stock exchanges. As per the official statement, the amount will be discharged through equity shares and cash. The issuance of about 36.47 million equity shares of Bharti Airtel at a price of ₹600 per share and up to ₹1,037.80 crores in cash will be done.

The company feels that this step will facilitate the unlocking of value for shareholders.

Speaking on this occasion, Mr Harjeet Kohli, Group Director, Bharti Enterprises, said, “DTH is an integral part of our Homes strategy. And this transaction is another step towards simplifying the shareholding of our customer-facing businesses providing structural flexibility and ease of implementation.”

He also retaliated that the complete ownership of Bharti Telemedia will allow Airtel to promote the “One Home Strategy” thereby providing varied solutions to its subscribers.

Commenting on this Vishal Mahadevia, MD and head of Warburg Pincus India, said, “Airtel was one of the earliest and most profitable investments for Warburg Pincus in India. We are delighted to be back as partners in Bharti Airtel through this transaction.”

Airtel Spending Cash Elsewhere:

According to trade analysts, the Bharti Airtel’s buyback of 20% stake is a big surprise when the telecom companies are getting ready for the upcoming spectrum auction. Airtel’s spending cash elsewhere ahead of spectrum auction is indeed a brave decision from Mittal group.

The bid to have full control of DTH is a clear signal to offer “One Home” bundled product. Undoubtedly, this transaction is a win-win for both parties making Airtel a perfect competitor against Reliance Jio.
