    • Airtel ₹1599 Postpaid Plan Benefits Explained in Detail (A Must Read)

      alt text

Undoubtedly, Bharti Airtel commands a good percentage of the postpaid market. Though Reliance Jio is the market leader in telecom, Airtel is the No:1 choice for postpaid users.

Jio has been maintaining its supremacy through prepaid plans. Though the 4G VoLTE player has got Jio Postpaid Plus to woo the premium segment, Airtel continues to be the de-facto postpaid operator.

The postpaid segment of Airtel starts at ₹399 and goes all the way up to ₹1599. Let us have a quick and in-depth analysis of Airtel ₹1599 postpaid plan.

Bharti Airtel ₹1599 Postpaid Plan Benefits:

As seen with all the postpaid plans, Airtel’s ₹1599 Postpaid Plan offers unlimited voice calls, daily 100 SMS (local, STD and roaming) and 500GB monthly data. The user can rollover the data up to 200GB per month.

Post the monthly usage of 500GB, the subscriber will be charged 2paise per MB. That means per GB it will cost around ₹20.48. The unlimited voice calling includes local, STD and roaming benefits.

In the case of SMS, post the usage of 100 SMS per day, it will be 10paise per SMS.

The user will also get 200 ISD minutes every month along with a 10% discount on all the international roaming (IR) packs.

Bharti Airtel ₹1599 Postpaid Plan ~ Non-telecom Benefits:

Apart from the telecom benefits, Airtel Thanks Rewards include 1-year free Amazon Prime subscription, Handset protection, Disney+ Hotstar VIP, Shaw Academy Lifetime access, Juggernaut books, Airtel X-stream App premium and Wynk premium.

The Airtel’s ₹1599 Postpaid Plan is eligible for 1 free add-on connection worth ₹249 with unlimited calls. Beyond consumption of allocated freebies, the add-ons will be charged at ₹249 for regular unlimited calls, 10GB data, 100SMS/day and 99 for only DATA SIM respectively.

      What’s Your Opinion?

Sadly, this Airtel’s ₹1599 Postpaid Plan is not a part of Airtel Family Postpaid Plans. Leaving it aside, this is a high-end value meant for Airtel Postpaid users. However, if you don’t have a decent Airtel coverage then check out other alternative plans from its competitors.

The Vodafone Idea has recently launched Vi ₹699 plan that offers unlimited data, 100 SMS per month, 1-yr Amazon Prime, Zee5 Premium and Vi Movies and TV subscription. This seems to be a solid plan. As said earlier, everything depends on the network coverage area.

So, what is your opinion on Bharti Airtel’s postpaid plans? Share your thoughts.

    • Best Data Plans with OTT Benefits by Jio, Airtel, Vi (Under ₹500)

      alt text

If you are searching for the best data-only plans under ₹500, then this resource could be a handy guide. Here’s a quick synopsis of the best data plans India 2021 that offer calling, data and SMS benefits.

Though there used to be a number of telecom operators, now the scenario has changed. There are only 4 operators and out of the one being the state-sponsored BSNL. After amalgamations, only three private entities (Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, and Vodafone Idea) remained in the sector.

Data being the new oil, the telecom companies started offering data at a reduced rate. This led to the demand for OTT platforms and data-users are preferring streaming benefits.

With WhatsApp and other IM’s in the handset, many customers are preferring unlimited data-plans and showing a negative interest towards unlimited voice calling.

Following the customers’ need, the telecom companies are also formulating data-plans or hybrid plans that can cater to all sections of the society.

If you are a prime user of streaming services like Amazon Prime, Netflix or Disney+ Hotstar VIP or Zee Premium, then your search for the best unlimited data-only plans will end here.

      Airtel ₹401 Prepaid Plan:

Though Jio started offering data-centric plans, Airtel took it to a new level by offering streaming benefits. The Bharti Airtel’s ₹401 prepaid plan offers 30GB data with a validity of 28 days. Apart from 30GB data, the recharge pack offers annual VIP subscription to Disney+ Hotstar.

Sadly, Airtel’s ₹401 prepaid plan doesn’t offer any voice calling benefits.

      Jio ₹499 Prepaid Plan:

The Reliance Jio ₹499 prepaid plan packs daily 1.5GB data with a validity of 56 days. Thus, it packs 84GB of data in total. It offers 1-year VIP subscription to Disney+ Hotstar (worth ₹399) in addition to a complimentary subscription to Jio Apps. On a similar note, the Jio pack doesn’t offer any calling or SMS benefit.

      Vi ₹355 Prepaid Plan:

The Vi ₹355 prepaid plan packs 50GB data with a validity of 28 days. Moreover, it packs access to ZEE5 Premium for a period of 1 year.

      BSNL STV ₹429 Prepaid Plan:

The state-run telecom BSNL has got STV ₹429 prepaid plan that offers unlimited free voice calling, daily 1GB data and 100 free SMS/day. Along with this combo benefit, the BSNL prepaid pack offers EROS NOW Entertainment services. The validity of this STV ₹429 pack is 81 days. Thus it packs 81GB data in total.

By comparing the data benefits of Reliance Jio, Airtel, Vi and BSNL, it is clear that Jio ₹499 Prepaid Plan offers better value.

So, which telecom operator offers the best value for money when you consider the data-only pack? Share your thoughts.

      alt text

In a bid to gather more market share, the Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi has announced permanent price cuts on four Poco handsets. As per the Twitter announcement, the price cut varies from ₹1500 to ₹4000.

The Poco handsets that received official price cut are Poco M2, Poco M2 Pro, Poco C3 and Poco X3. The price cut is not uniform and varies depending on the model and the storage options.

As per the press release, the Poco C3 handset received a price cut of 2500 and will retail at ₹8499. Similarly, the Poco M2 6GB+128GB variant price is reduced by 4K and the new price is ₹10,999.

The most popular Poco M2 Pro also received a massive discount of 4K and the 6GB+64GB model will now cost ₹13,999. The latest release Poco X3 6/128GB variant also received a discount of 3K and will now retail at ₹17,999.

      Poco New Pricing:

The following table clearly shows the difference in pricing and one can

Smartphone Memory Old Price New Price
      Poco C3 4/64GB ₹10,999 ₹8499
      Poco M2 6/64GB ₹12999 ₹9999
      6/128GB 14999 10999
      Poco M2 Pro 4/64GB ₹16999 ₹12999
      6/64GB ₹17999 ₹13999
      6/128GB ₹19999 ₹15999
      Poco X3 6/128GB ₹20999 ₹17999

Of all the listed handsets, Poco X3 has got extremely positive reviews and some branding it as an all-round performer in its pricing segment. The 3K discount makes the deal sweeter.

By looking at the portfolio of Poco smartphones, one can easily say that almost 50% of the handsets are more affordable now. Some might even argue that these handsets were cheaper during Amazon and Flipkart sale. However, it is to be noted that those discounts were taken after bank offers.

Moreover, it is to be noted that the POCO, Redmi, and Mi are all the brands under Xiaomi. Some plus and some minus (aka rebranding) seem to be a regular practice with Xiaomi. Leaving it aside, the poco handsets are online exclusive.

It’s a known fact that OnePlus always releases timely updates, unlike other competitors. That’s the reason OxygenOS is the most preferred mobile OS.

Though the OnePlus Nord was declared to be on the Android 11 update, there was a considerable delay for months. Undoubtedly, this is the biggest update for the mid-range smartphone.

      Just Wait for Stable Rollout:

For the unaware, OnePlus launched this mid-range OnePlus Nord 5G handset on July 21, 2020. The 90 Hz refresh rate combined with OxygenOS at 28K brought positive reviews for this OnePlus. mid-ranger.

The ACT Fibernet is considered to be India’s one of the leading internet service providers. With aggressive plans, JioFiber is definitely on a roll. To keep its momentum, even Airtel also joined the race offering Gigabyte speed plans.

Going with the specs, Xiaomi Mi 10i will likely compete against OnePlus Nord 5G and Vivo V20 Pro 5G. However, it is to be noted that the new handset resembles a Poco X3 with upgraded internals. Moreover, the presence of very less 5G bands can be a deciding factor.

If 5G phone is the only criteria, then there are many options including Mi 10T, Realme X50 Pro, and Moto G 5G. Even the Realme X3 Series handsets that are powered by Snapdragon 855+ chipsets are equally competent enough.

Annoyingly, Redmi Note 9 Series has got a big product line up. And the latest to join the family is Redmi Note 9T. To add frustration, the Amazon Germany portal has accidentally listed the specs of the smartphone and EU pricing as well.

Amazon’s Leaked Specs List of Redmi Note 9T:

      alt text

As per the Amazon’s promotional images, the Redmi Note 9T sports a 6.53-inch FHD+ DotDisplay with 90Hz refresh rate. There’s a 48MP Triple camera setup. Powered by MediaTek Dimensity 800U 5G SoC, the handset seems to support dual 5G. It also packs 4GB RAM with 64GB/128GB inbuilt storage space.

Backed by a massive 5000mAh battery and 18W fast charging support, the much-awaited Redmi Note 9T boots MIUI12 based on Android 10. Available in 2 colour variants (Nightfall Black and Daybreak Purple), Redmi Note 9T 4GB+64GB costs €229.90 and the 128GB variant costs €269.90 with no extra RAM.

    • Apple Bans 39K Chinese Apps & Games (from App Store in China)

      alt text

In a shocking move, the American tech giant Apple removed 39,142 apps from the China App Store. This is the biggest app ban on any single day.

Apple removed the unlicensed apps as they were given ample time to get a government-issued license number. Initially, Apple gave a deadline until the end-of-June. However, it was later extended to December 31st as the process was tedious and time-consuming.

      Apple Insists Government-issued License Number:

If the reports are to be believed the Apple is ready to slap another 7,000 apps with immediate effect. It’s to be noted that the Chinese apps don’t consider license terms seriously. Probably, this led Apple to enforce the rule and act harshly.

The prohibited 39,142 Chinese apps include some prominent publishers like Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed Identity and NBA 2K20.

      alt text

As per Qimai (the Beijing-based online data service provider), there were 164,000 online apps in the App Store in China. As on December 31, 39K off-the-shelf apps and 24% of the games got affected. The report also revealed that only 74 of the top 1,500 paid games survived the purge.

      Apple Bans Pandemic Party Apps:

In a similar move, Apple also banned Vybe Together app that allowed people to locate “secret” indoor house parties. The tech company cited ill-timed promotion as it encouraged the spread of the COVID-19.

Though the liberal media opposed Apple’s stand on pandemic parties, it is definitely a right one when one considers 352K COVID deaths in the US.

    • Vivo Y20A to go on Sale with Snapdragon 439 SoC (Priced at ₹11,490)

      alt text

Vivo has added another budget handset to its product lineup. Starting today, the Vivo Y20A will go on for sale at ₹11,490. Though it has got many similarities with Vivo Y20 and Y20i, the newly launched Vivo Y20A is special with its processor.

The toned-down version of the Y20 lacks fast charging and underpowered processor. However, it packs a big 5000mAh battery. In similar lines, this Y series handset is aimed at the offline market. The handset comes in a single variant 3GB+64GB and is available in two colours, Dawn White and Nebula Blue.

      Vivo Y20A Specifications:

Regarding specifications, the Vivo Y20A sports a 6.51-inch HD+ (1600 x 720 resolution) Halo FullView Display with eye protection (blue light filtering function). There’s a teardrop notch on top for the selfie camera.

Powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 439 chipset and 3GB RAM, the Vivo Y20A houses 32GB inbuilt storage. The storage can be further expanded up to 256GB using a microSD card.

On the camera front, there is an AI triple-camera-setup at the back. It packs 13MP main camera, 2MP macro camera and 2MP depth sensor. For selfies, the Vivo Y20A packs an 8MP selfie camera with a teardrop notch.

The company claims that the side-mounted fingerprint sensor unlocks phone within 0.26 seconds. This setup is very much similar to the popular phones like Realme 7 and Redmi Note 9 Pro. There’s a Face Access as well.

The Y20A is backed by 5,000mAh battery with 10W charging support. Sadly, this being a budget handset misses fast charging support equipped in the Vivo Y20. It boots the Funtouch OS 11 out-of-the-box based on Android 10.

What’s Your Opinion on Vivi Y20A?

Connectivity-wise, the Vivo Y20A supports dual SIM (nano), 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2, FM, OTG, GPS and a Micro USB port. It also supports all the sensors including Accelerometer, Ambient light sensor, Gyroscope sensor, and E-compass.

As the Vivo Y20A is a budget handset, it has to face severe competition from the other top handsets in its price range including Xiaomi Redmi Note 9, Realme 7i, Oppo A5 2020 etc.

    • Telecom Services to Improve in Tripura (392 Mobile Towers Sanctioned)

      alt text

The long-pending correction of poor telecom services in Tripura is being considered by the Ministry of Telecommunications. As an immediate effect 392 mobile towers have been sanctioned.

For years, the long stretch of east and south-eastern parts of Tripura have not been receiving telecom services. This is mainly due to the unavailability of the mobile network and poor infrastructure.

Acute Shortage of Mobile Towers in Mountain Ranges:

As this third-smallest Indian state is bordered by Bangladesh to the North, South and West, Tripura is facing acute shortage of mobile phone towers and related telecom infrastructure. Shockingly, the Indian army deployed in these mountain ranges is almost disconnected.

Speaking on this issue, the Lok Sabha MP from East Tripura (Mr Rebati Tripura) said: “Following a large number of complaints, I wrote a letter to Union minister of electronics, information technology and communication Ravi Shankar Prasad”.

As a result, the Ministry of Telecommunications took the decision to address the poor connectivity. And thereafter a survey revealed the poor telecom infrastructure. With this, the Ministry immediately sanctioned 392 new mobile phone towers in the bordering village areas of Tripura.

State-owned BSNL getting Step Mother Treatment:

      alt text

Despite doing good business, BSNL is not getting sufficient funds in the region. Interestingly, there is a rumour that BJP government at the centre is favouring private telecom operators and state-owned BSNL is not getting adequate support for infrastructure development.

One thing is to be admitted. The high rate of poverty and unemployment continue to plague Tripura, which has a limited infrastructure. If the North-Eastern states get good infrastructure then they would be easily accessible from New Delhi.

      alt text

Nokia is expanding further to launch more electronic products. In fact, the industry analysts say that Nokia is very aggressive in its business expansion. Recently, the Finnish company has launched Nokia Smart TVs, laptops, and Air conditioners in association with Flipkart.

      Nokia’s Extended Product Line:

If the words of Mr Vipul Mehrotra, Head of Nokia Brand Partnerships, has to be considered Nokia will soon make its entry into electronic home appliances including dishwashers, vacuum cleaners, refrigerators, smart lights, and many more.

After being out of Microsoft’s umbrella, Nokia has been rebranding its business under HMD Global. Starting with Nokia smartphone, the brand Nokia is now associated with android Smart TVs, Streaming devices, Notebooks, and Air Conditioners.

The recent festive season sales have put Nokia Smart TVs as one of the five highest-selling TVs in the Indian market. If the reports are to be believed, Nokia Smart TV in association with Flipkart has dented the Xiaomi’s TV market share.

      Nokia’s Brand Strengthening or Diluting?

Expansion of any business is vital for its growth. However, the brand which is associated with smartphones and features is being diluted. On the other hand, Nokia sees it as a great opportunity where it can control all the products using a single Nokia App.
