    • OnePlus Nord Teases a Sandstone Finish (Special Edition on 14 October)

      alt text

The Chinese smartphone manufacturer OnePlus has officially declared that there would be a special edition of OnePlus Nord. With a teaser image on its Twitter handle, the company has asked its fans to decode it.

By going through the image which presents OnePlus Nord with stones and sand as a hint, it’s official that the mid-range handset will get another colour variant apart from Blue Marble and Gray Onyx.

It’s to be noted down that there’s also a tagline “Beauty is Everywhere”.

Yet to be launched OnePlus Nord looks similar to Charcoal Gray colour that reminds us of OnePlus 5T Star Wars Edition. Though there’s no official document to prove its specs, the OnePlus lovers anticipate it to have 256GB onboard storage space.

Regarding OnePlus Nord specifications, it sports a 6.44-inch Fluid AMOLED display with 1080x2400 pixels resolution and 90Hz refresh rate.

The OnePlus Nord smartphone is powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 765G chipset and Adreno 620 GPU. It has got up to 12GB RAM and 256GB onboard storage space with no microSD card slot. The 3 variants are 6GB RAM 64GB ROM, 8GB RAM 128GB ROM, and 12GB RAM 256GB.

On the camera front, OnePlus Nord gets a quad-camera-setup combination including 48mp main camera (wide), 8mp ultrawide lens, 5mp depth sensor and 2mp macro shooter. For selfies, it gets dual-camera setup including 32mp (wide) plus 8mp ultrawide sensor.

Backed by a 4115mAh battery with 30T Warp Charge fast-charging (70% in 30 minutes) support, OnePlus Nord is surely a big-changer in the mid-range segment.

Coming back to OnePlus Nord Special Edition, the new Sandstone finish could also bring some changes in its core design. The prime one being ditching its Corning Gorilla Glass 5 panel.

      Let’s wait for further update.

    • BSNL Reinstates the Network in Strategically Located Chaglagam Sector

      alt text

The state-owned telecom service provider has reinstated its mobile telephone services in the Indo-China border Chaglagam area. Incidentally, this comes as a major relief for the entire LAC (Line of Actual Control).

In the year 2013, Chinese Army troops invaded 30km inside the Indian territory and later on sent back by India’s Indo-Tibetan Border Police.

The Chaglagam circle and its adjoining villages in Anjaw District of Arunachal Pradesh serve as a key area for Arunachal Scouts and ITBP personnel. To be specific, Rocham is the last Indian Army post and it takes a minimum of 2 days from Chaglagam to reach the place by walk.

For the unaware, the 2G services in the entire remote area got disrupted in July due to a technical snag in BSNL’s VSAT system.

      Strengthening Infrastructure in Border Areas:

Reporting a fix, the BSNL SDO (Technical) officer Mr Onyok Tayeng said, “The VSAT system restoration work got delayed due to COVID-19 pandemic. And it’s now functioning”.

Both the Indian Army and local people will now access BSNL 2G coverage in strategically located areas of Indo-China border including Chaglagam, Kibithu, Wallong and Hawai.

Speaking on the occasion, the BSNL Technical officer added that 3G mobile services are ready and the telecom network is awaiting the permission from the Indian Army to make it operational.

    • OPPO Reno 3 Pro 128GB Variant Gets 3rd Price Revision (Now at ₹25990)

      alt text

OPPO once again surprised the mobile lovers by announcing a price change for the third time in a row for its Reno 3 Pro handset. Since its launch on 6th March, there has been a price revision on regular basis.

If one goes back to Oppo Reno 3 Pro launch session, a price of ₹29,990 for 8GB + 128GB was announced. The 8GB + 256GB variant was priced at ₹32,990. However, the month of April has seen a sharp rise in the price due to the GST revision. Then the new prices were adjusted to ₹31,990 and ₹34,990 respectively.

2K Price Cut Only for 128GB Variant:

As per the company’s latest statement, there’s a sharp decline in the price of the 128GB variant. The new price of 8GB RAM + 128 GB ROM is fixed at ₹25990 (down from ₹27,990) whereas the 256GB ROM variant doesn’t have any price cut. It will continue to retail at ₹29,990 only.

The OPPO Electronics has made it mandatory to decrease the price of Oppo Reno 3 Pro handset in view of the current festival sale. Moreover, it natural when the successor Reno 4 Pro is ruling the market.

Accordingly, the Amazon Indian website has also made changes with immediate effect. For the unaware, OPPO Reno 3 Pro is known for its quad-camera setup.

      OPPO Reno 3 Pro Specifications:

Regarding specs, the OPPO Reno 3 Pro sports a 6.4-inch full HD+ Super AMOLED display. Powered by an octa-core MediaTek Helio P95 chipset and 8GB RAM, this smartphone comes in 2 storage variants (128GB and 256GB internal space).

As told earlier, Reno 3 Pro includes quad-camera-setup. It has 64-mp primary camera, 13mp telephoto lens, 8mp ultra-wide sensor and 2mp monochrome sensor.

For selfie, it has 44mp primary shooter and 2mp depth sensor, all packed in dual-punch hole design. It also sports an in-display fingerprint sensor for security purpose.

      alt text

      What’s Your Opinion?

With 4,025mAh battery and 30W VOOC Flash Charge 4.0 technology, the handset weighs just 175 grams. Claimed to be a global variant, it suffers from no NFC support.

The Reno 3 Pro smartphone is available in 3 different colour options including Midnight Black, Sky White, and Auroral Blue.

Leaving poor low-light video recording, the optics of OPPO Reno 3 Pro are solid. Though there are many alternatives such as Poco X3, many photography lovers prefer OPPO smartphone. Probably, the SUPER AMOLED display shifts the decision towards OPPO handsets.

    • Google Pixel 4a at ₹29999 (From 16 Oct on Flipkart)

      alt text

Google has finally unveiled the Pixel 4a in the Indian market. Though it was announced over 2 months ago, it seems Google is waiting for the opportunity. With Flipkart’s Big Billion Days Sale, all is set now for the sale of much anticipated Google Pixel 4a.

Starting October 16th, the Google Pixel 4a can be grabbed at just ₹29,999. The search engine giant has clearly mentioned that the 30K introductory pricing is for a limited period. Later on, it will retail at ₹31,999.

      Google Pixel 4a Specifications:

When the Android smartphone industry is taking the size of a Tablet (phablet) as standard, Google Pixel 4a has got a compact built. The new Google phone sports a 5.81-inch Full HD+ OLED display with 1080 x 2340px resolution and 19.5:9 aspect ratio.

Powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G processor and Adreno 618 GPU, the Google Pixel 4a has 6GB RAM and 128GB internal storage space. It is non-expandable unlike the other Android handsets in the market.

Pixel phones are known for rich photos and Google Pixel 4a will not disappoint. It sports a 12.2mp dual-pixel autofocus lens with f/1.7 aperture. For selfie lovers, there’s an 8mp front camera with f/2.0 aperture.

When the optics are being flooded with triple-camera and quad-cameras, Google has got only single snapper but it supports Google’s Super Zoom functionality. The camera’s algorithm doesn’t require a manual shooting mode.

Moreover, the Pixel 4a supports Astrophotography capturing the starry night skies and low-light conditions. It also supports video stabilization and recording 4K videos at 30 frames per second.

      Pixel 4a All-day Adaptive Battery:

Though the Pixel 4a packs a modest 3140mAh battery, it gives an “all-day” battery life. Let’s not compare this offering with cheaper handsets providing 5000 or even 6000mAh battery.

Its battery endurance along with 18W USB type-C charger is good enough for all day-to-day activities. In the battery test, it took less than 100 minutes to fully charge.

What’s Your Opinion - Peace of Mind:

The responsive fingerprint scanner and matte finish on the back make it super pleasing to hold. Though Google might not have packed the best specs, still Pixel 4a will stand out in its class.

The latest Android OS and security updates for at least 3 years make Google Pixel 4a the best in its price range. To sweeten the offer, Google has bundled 3-month complimentary access to YouTube Premium and Google One storage.

Undoubtedly, one can pick the Pixel 4a over OnePlus Nord (5K less) or iPhone SE (10K more).

    • Poco M2 Pro Flipkart Sale Price (At ₹11699, Just Grab it)

      alt text

You might be knowing that the Flipkart’s The Billion Days Sale will commence from October 16th for a period of 6 days. And for Flipkart Plus members, the sale would be commencing from 15th October 15th 12 PM. That means the Flipkart Plus members will get early access to the Big Billion Days Sale.

I’ve been getting countless queries on what’s the best phone under 12K budget? Generally, one can find many resources on best phones under 10K or best phones under 15K budget. However, there is no clear info on the best deals under 12K budget.

Poco M2 Pro at ₹11,699 Only:

Let’s concentrate our topic on Poco M2 Pro. And go through its pros and cons and the price and whether to purchase it or not.

If you remember, the first sale of Poco M2 Pro commenced on 14th July and the handset was priced ₹13,999 for 4GB RAM + 64GB ROM variant.

However, as per the Flipkart’s Big Billion Days Sale, the Flipkart has offered a flat ₹1000 discount on Poco M2 Pro. That means it would retail at ₹12,999.

Luckily, you can get further discount on this mid-range Poco M2 Pro handset. B purchasing it through SBI Debit or Credit card, you get an instant 10% discount. That translates to ₹1300!

Finally, you’ll end up paying an effective price of ₹11,699 for Poco M2 Pro 4GB variant.

      alt text

Do you think of it as a good deal? Let’s dig further.

      Poco M2 Pro Specifications:

Poco M2 Pro sports a large cinematic 6.67-inch Full HD+ display with 1080 x 2400 pixels, 395 ppi density and Triple Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection on the top.

Powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G chipset (like the Redmi Note 9 Pro) and 4/6 GB RAM, the handset has up to 128GB internal space. With 2+1 microSD card slot, you can expand the internal storage space up to 512GB

Performance-wise, this Snapdragon 720G chipset is a decent performer (and better than G90T) for regular activities including video editing, light games etc.

      Poco M2 Pro Specifications:

On the camera front, it has AI quad-camera setup on the back including 48mp wide lens from Samsung, 8mp ultra-wide lens, 5mp macro shooter and 2mp depth sensor. One can shoot 4K videos at 30fps. For selfie enthusiasts, you get 16mp in-display selfie camera.

Both specs and real photos are comparatively good enough at this price range.

Backed by a 5000mAh battery and 33W fast charging, the Poco M2 Pro stands for you for more than a day easily. Regarding OS, as it’s a Poco launcher phone, you don’t need to worry about the Ads that you usually encounter with MIUI in Redmi Note 9 Pro.

      What’s Your Opinion?

There might be some issues with the phone regarding small lag in touch responsiveness (or call it a display bleeding issue). That’s the same issue being noted with Note 9 Pro as well.

Regarding banned security Apps like Clean Master, Poco has promised to send a new update or you can even uninstall them with a simple click.

Apart from branding difference and colour variation, you’ll not find major technical differences with Redmi Note 9 Pro or Max handsets.

Overall, this is a good package at ₹11,699 when you are purchasing the handset with SBI cards during Flipkart’s Big Billion Days Sale.

On the optics front, the Samsung Galaxy A21s features a quad-camera setup on the back. It includes 48mp main camera, 8mp ultra-wide lens, 2mp macro camera, and 2mp depth sensor. It holds a 13mp front camera as well. The punch hole camera gives it a decent look.

A Good Phone, but Not Great:

Backed by a 5000mAh battery and 15W Type-C fast charging support, the handset is good enough to last for one day easily on a single charge. The handset runs on Android-10 based Samsung’s custom OneUI 2.1 version. There’s not much bloatware.

Personally, I feel that the plastic body makes it a bit disappointing. Though one would expect Qualcomm’s chipset, Samsung is least bothered. For regular usage, performance is not an issue.

The recent A51 is better. If given a chance I would prefer purchasing Galaxy M series.

    • Pay ₹100/Month & Migrate to Bharat Fiber (Kerala BSNL BB & LL Users)

      alt text

Just pay ₹100 and migrate to enjoy Bharat Fiber FTTH connection. Yes, you read it right!

The state-run telecom network provider BSNL announced a new bonanza offer to drive the subscribers to BSNL FTTH Bharat Fiber. According to the new offer, all the BSNL subscribers using its landline and broadband services can migrate to Bharat Fiber at just 100 ₹month.

      Bharat Fiber 1GB CS340 Plan:

This new Bharat Fiber ₹100 monthly rental plan is limited to Kerala Telecom Circle. As per records, this is an old plan titled 1GB CS340 and is available with effect from 21st June 2019.

The general public who are currently using BSNL landline or BSNL broadband services can migrate to Bharat Fiber with just ₹100 as the monthly rental. Of course, additional ₹500 as the security deposit.

If you looking for an annual payment option, then just pay ₹1100 and get special unlimited broadband (daily 1GB internet) for full 365 days.

Coming to plan benefits of the Bharat Fiber 1GB CS340, it provides daily 1GB/day data at 4Mbps speed. Beyond the daily 1GB limit, the data speed will be throttled to 1Mbps.

It also provides 24 hours unlimited voice calls (local + STD) across BSNL network within India. However, one can enjoy unlimited free calling across all networks between 10.30 pm and 6 am and on all Sundays.

For all other networks, MCU charges of ₹1.20 per pulse are levied.

      alt text

Retain Old Number & Get BSNL FTTH Connection:

Moreover, this helps in retaining their old landline number and make unlimited calls to any BSNL landline or mobile number.

Though the plan is just limited to Kerala Telecom Circle, BSNL is considering to extend this plan across India. This strategic move can help BSNL customers to migrate to Bharat Fiber and enjoy FTTH benefits at full scale.

    • Best Postpaid Plan Comparison 2020 (Airtel vs Jio vs Vi vs BSNL)

      alt text

Are you looking for the best postpaid plan in India? Then this report is exclusively for you.

Though more than 95% of the subscribers opt prepaid, the telecom operators consider postpaid segment as their cash cow. Thus, the companies design special plans for their postpaid subscribers.

REDX, Platinum, Premium …! Whatever you call it, the postpaid plans deliver a major revenue for the telecom providers. Incidentally, all the three major telecom companies have got entry-level postpaid plans at ₹399.

Additionally, Reliance Jio has got very economical Postpaid Plan ₹199. It offers 25GB data, unlimited on-net voice calls and 100 SMS/day. Leaving it aside, let’s check the other basic or entry-level postpaid plans offered by all the telecom operators.

Best Postpaid Plan in India 2020 (Updated October 2020)

If ₹399 is the minimum amount for the postpaid plan, then which telecom network provides the best postpaid plan?

To make things easier, let’s have the best postpaid plan comparison in this ₹399 pricing.

      Airtel ₹399 Postpaid Plan:

Initially, this entry-level plan was limited to select telecom circles. However, with Jio announcing new Postpaid Plus plans, Bharti Airtel launched the ₹399 postpaid plan across India.

Under this plan, the subscriber will get 40GB data, unlimited voice calls, and 100 SMS per day. As a complimentary offer, Airtel has bundled its Airtel Xstream Premium subscription, Wynk Music and Shaw Academy membership.

If you happen to use the same Airtel number for FASTag, then you’ll receive ₹150 as cashback.

      Jio ₹399 Postpaid Plan:

      alt text

Reliance Jio, surely India’s biggest telecom disruptor, has launched new JioPostpaid Plus plans. It’s basic PostpaidPlus Rental ₹399 plan offers 75GB data, unlimited calling and unlimited SMS.

Post 75GB data, you’ll be charged ₹10/GB. Data rollover facility is included up to 200GB. As usual, one gets a complimentary subscription of all the Jio apps.

Apart from these core benefits, JioPostpaid Plus has got tie-up with OTT platforms to provide premium benefits including Amazon Prime (Worth ₹999), Netflix Mobile Plan (Worth ₹199), Disney+ Hotstar VIP membership (Worth ₹365).

      Vi ₹399 Postpaid Plan:

Surprisingly, Vodafone Idea (Vi) too joined the race by announcing ₹399 plan in its postpaid segment. Here, the subscriber will get 40GB data, unlimited voice calls and SMS. As a promotional offer, Vi is adding extra 150GB data for 6 months.

There’s a data-rollover facility of 200GB. Though Vi has not officially announced, a few postpaid users are enjoying Amazon Prime membership at no extra cost.

Officially, there is no mention of any OTT benefit except Free Vi movies, Vi TV, and ₹200 off on Zomato Food orders.

BSNL 399 (Ghar Wapsi Plan) Postpaid:

      alt text

The BSNL 399 Ghar Wapsi Plan offers unlimited voice calls (to any network), 30GB data, and 100 SMS per month.

Unlike the private telecom players, the BSNL doesn’t provide any OTT benefit. However, there’s news that Amazon Prime subscription is being provided to the plans higher than ₹399 rental. Moreover, there’s no clarity from the state-owned telecom provider whether this Ghar Wapsi Plan is a long-term or promotional plan.

      What’s Your Opinion?

By comparing the postpaid plans of Bharti Airtel, Vi (Vodafone Idea), Reliance Jio and BSNL, one can easily conclude that all the plans are look similar on paper. Both Airtel and Jio offer OTT benefits whereas there’s no confirmed news from Vi.

Moreover, the latest news from JioPostpaid Plus Terms & Conditions, it’s been revealed that ₹135 plus tax is being charged as subscription charges for OTT platforms.

That means, only ₹264 is the actual monthly rental of JioPostpaid Plus basic plan. That’s incredible!

By performing an in-depth analysis, one can conclude that Jio ₹399 Postpaid Plan provides the best value. It is undoubtedly the best postpaid plan in India 2020.

However, one should also consider the signal strength in your area before choosing a particular network. If you have a good Jio network coverage then go with the Jio ₹399 Postpaid Plan, otherwise, Airtel ₹399 Postpaid Plan will not disappoint you.

      alt text

Realme, the sub-brand of OPPO, has added another handset in the Realme 7 series. Those who are unaware the Realme 7 series consist of the Realme 7 and Realme 7 Pro.

Unarguably, the Realme 7i is a toned-down version of Realme 7. Let’s consider the Realme 7i specs first.

      Realme 7i Specifications:

The Realme 7i sports a 6.5-inch screen with 90Hz ultra-smooth display, 720p resolution and Corning Gorilla Glass protection. Powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 662 chipset (down from Helio G95), Adreno 610 GPU and 4GB of RAM, the Realme 7i has 64GB internal storage.

However, if you need a 128GB ROM, then pay extra 1K. This can be further expanded up to 256GB via a microSD card.

      Realme AI Quad-Camera Setup:

On the optics front, the Realme 7i gets a quad-camera-setup on the rear. For the selfies, you get 16mp front camera packed inside the punch-hole. It gets a fingerprint scanner at the back.

    • Samsung Galaxy S20 FE (A Toned-Down Variant of Flagship)

      alt text

The South Korean electronics giant launched its latest smartphone Samsung Galaxy S20 FE in the Indian market. Priced at ₹49999, the Galaxy S20 FE is powered by octa-core Samsung Exynos 990 chipset instead of Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC.

      Samsung Galaxy S20 FE Specification:

As the Indian variant doesn’t support 5G network, there is a change in the chipset. The other specs remain the same. Backed by 8GB RAM, it has got 128GB inbuilt space and can be expanded further up to 1TB using microSD card.

The Samsung Galaxy S20 FE boots Android 10-based One UI 2.5. With 120Hz refresh rate, the jumbo-sized 6.5-inch FullHD+ Infinity-O AMOLED display is a treat to eyes while watching rich media including OTT content. It has Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection over the panel.

      alt text

      Amazing Triple Cameras:

On the optics front, it has got triple-camera-setup (12mp wide + 8mp telephoto + 12mp ultrawide) on the back and 32mp front-facing camera. A responsive optical in-display fingerprint scanner for security is also included.

The Samsung Galaxy S20 FE packs 4500mAh battery with 15W wireless charging support. It includes a 25W wired charger as well. Surprisingly, Samsung has ditched 3.5mm headphone jack.

Available in 5 different colours (including Cloud White, Cloud Navy, Cloud Lavender, Cloud Red, and Cloud Mint), the latest Samsung Galaxy S20 FE can be purchased both online and offline stores across India.

Staring October 16th, one can order online through Amazon India and Samsung India website. The pre-orders will start on October 9th.

      What’s Your Opinion?

Undoubtedly, Samsung Galaxy S20 FE Indian variant loses its charm without Qualcomm Snapdragon 865. To be precise, one can’t label it as a flagship model. In reality, it’s a toned-down variant.

Instead, I would give with Samsung Galaxy S20+ during Flipkart Big Billion Sale.

      alt text

Gone are the days of supremacy enjoyed by Galaxy Note series in the premium segment. Now, one has a myriad of alternatives within 50K budget. By observing the current trend, it appears that Samsung has handed over this premium segment to OnePlus.

Guess, one can even get the super expensive iPhone 11 under 50K budget on Amazon sale.

In short, the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE might appeal only to Samsung brand lovers.
