    • Moto G4 Play: The Least Expensive G4 now in India, Priced at ₹ 8999

      alt text

The Moto G4 Play, the third member of Moto G4 family, will be now available for sale in India through its exclusive partner Amazon India. It is the least expensive of the fourth generation Moto G family. Priced at ₹ 8,999, Moto G4 is available in Black and White colour variants.

      Moto G4 Play Specifications:

Coming to its specifications, Moto G4 Play is powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 SoC. There’s also 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage that’s expandable via microSD card up to 128GB.

The Moto G4 Play offers an 8-megapixel rear camera with a f/2.2 aperture and LED flash bolded text. The front-facing camera sports a 5-megapixel sensor. The smartphone sports a 5-inch HD 720p (1280x720 pixels) IPS LCD display making it a smaller option to relative 5.5-inch screens of Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus.

This dual SIM Moto G4 runs on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow and comes with a modest 8-megapixel rear camera, F/2.2 aperture, Auto HDR and LED flash. However, the front camera bears 5-megapixel sensor similar to the other Moto G4’s. Moreover, Moto G4 Play uses a water repellent nano-coating to protect your phone from little rain or splash.

      Moto G4 Play Rapid Charging:

Connectivity-wise, the new entry Moto G4 play supports Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, 4G LTE, VoLTE, Bluetooth 4.1 LE and a micro-USB port on the bottom edge. It also gets a decent 2800 mAh battery that claims to provide 5 hours of battery life with 15 minutes of charging by its 10W rapid charger.

If you are comparing Lenovo-owned Motorola Moto G4 with highly competitive sub-₹ 10,000 categories, then you’ll surely miss a fingerprint sensor. If you want biometric authentication feature then you should step up to the Moto G4 Plus smartphone that costs ₹ 13,499. Definitely, there’s a significant price difference and its siblings are better placed.

      Moto G4 Play Promotional Offer:

However, Motorola is offering promotional benefits for the device to the customers until September 13. They are as follows:

      • Get ₹ 15,000 Yatra e-cash from Yatra.com
      • Additional 5% cashback on HDFC debit card
      • Get ₹ 300 cashback on Motorola Pulse 2 headphone
      • ₹ 100 off on BookMyShow.com
      • Download and sign into the Kindle App and get 80% off on Kindle eBooks, up to a maximum of ₹ 500.
      • Buy Moto G4 Play on Amazon App and stand a chance to get 100% cashback

    • BSNL Unveils Unlimited Broadband Plan, Offers 300GB Internet for ₹249

      alt text

State-run telecom operator BSNL has unveiled a new promotional broadband internet plan called Experience Unlimited BB 249. Attempting to counter Reliance Jio affordable internet plans, BSNL with its limited speed has brought up unlimited internet at 2Mbps speed. Post the FUP limit of 1GB; one can enjoy unlimited data at 1Mbps.

      1GB Internet less than ₹ 1:

This is an awesome plan to attract rural and urban customers across the country. With this Unlimited BB 249 plan, the user can enjoy unlimited internet downloads at less than ₹ 1 per GB. As per BSNL CMD Mr. Anupam Shrivastava, BSNL is the only telecom operator to offer 1GB of internet at less than ₹ 1 per day if the subscriber downloads starts download even 1GB per day.

      Other Benefits:

As this Experience Unlimited BB 249 plan is a promotional campaign, it would be applicable only to the new customers. After 6 months, the subscribers will be put on BBG Combo ULD 499 plan. And can even migrate to the regular plans based on his or her choice. Apart from the unlimited internet, this plan also offers unlimited free night calls between 9pm to 7am and on all Sundays to any telecom network across India.

This introductory offer will go live from September 9th to October 31st, 2016 and doesn’t attract installation charges. If you are making calls outside free call bracket, then you will be charged ₹ 1 per 3 minutes for all BSNL network and ₹ 1.20 per 3 minutes for all other networks.

      Is It Really Worth?

If one looks at the speed, BSNL is no way comparable with that of private telecom operators. 300GB internet at just 1Mbps is really a painful exercise. Though it is not an apple to apple comparison, BSNL’s new plan would definitely highlight the concept of affordability. With its PAN India network, BSNL could bridge the gap between rural and urban areas.

    • Reliance Jio to Bring Gigafiber Welcome Offer, 1Gbps Internet for 90 days

      alt text

Apart from the much awaited Jio 4G launch, Reliance also unveiled its plans to launch Gigafiber broadband internet services. This Fiber to home network will offer internet speed as high as 1 Gbps. Surely, this will be a huge step to realize the dreams of digital revolution.

      90-days Gigafiber Welcome Offer:

In the lines of Jio 4G, Reliance Jio will bring Gigafiber Welcome Offer for a period of 90 days. Apart from unlimited broadband at 100Mbps speed, one can enjoy access to Jio premium apps including JioPlay, JioBeats, and JioCinema using LYF branded IPTV set top box.

Though the beta services are limited to select towns and cities, it will be expanded to top 100 cities in India. As per the reports, the company has already rolled out its Gigafiber 1 Gbps internet services to residential complexes in select towns. As per the new report, the parent company Reliance has got more than 1, 00,000 route per km (Rkm) fiber network across India.

      alt text

      Only a Handful Competition:

Subscribers using Jio Fiber to Home network are claiming more than 90Mbps speed and related tweets are being viral across social media. This wired broadband internet is on par with the services being offered in the developed nations. At present, only a handful of telecom operators (such as Hayai, Reliance Ultraband, MTNL, and BSNL) are offering 1Gbps or faster plans in India but only limited to Mumbai.

If we look further, there are only a few such services like Google Fiber offering up to 1000Mbps internet connection speed to select metro areas like San Francisco, Raleigh-Durham, Huntsville, Nashville and San Antonio. Currently, Google is exploring bringing Google Fiber to 8 cities in the USA. Google Fiber plans start at $70 per month (approx ₹ 4900) and $10 for unlimited calls to the US and Canada.

      Ultra Affordable:

Certainly, we can’t expect the same pricing to be followed here. However, higher speed will definitely attract a premium rate. Otherwise, the quality of the service would be at stake.

During the preview offer, one can expect Jio Fiber services to be affordable. If the reports are to be believed, Reliance is offering 1Gbps plans starting at ₹ 500. Unlike Jio tariff, one can expect unlimited internet as 4G mobile data is different from that of broadband internet. With Gigafiber high-speed internet and Jio 4G, one can definitely expect seamless connectivity to the rural and urban India.

    • Why Samsung Will Replace Current Galaxy Note 7 with New One?

      alt text

Samsung Galaxy Note 7 is the most trending, and of course the hottest phone at this point. Starting from its design to features, everything seemed to be perfect from its launch date on 19th August. But an unlucky owner claimed that his phablet burst into flames and his posted photos went viral.

And with this incident, Samsung made an announcement of a global recall of its flagship Note 7 phone. It immediately halted the production of Note 7. One may be of the opinion that Note 7 is a failure handset. On the other hand, it’s more than that; they explode.

      alt text

      Reported Explosions:

As of September 1st, 35 cases were reported globally. Not just heating or smoke, the users have reported flames and explosion while charging. It is definitely a serious battery problem that Samsung would like to address via global recall. Till date, Samsung manufactured 2.5 billion units and sold 1 million to the end users. So, it’s definitely a shame on Samsung that the best Android phone the world has ever seen got a serious flaw to address.

If you happened to be an owner of Samsung Galaxy Note 7 then go and exchange it for a new one. Till then, use only OEM charger and do not leave it to charge overnight. If you have access to any other handset, then try to use it instead of the flagship Note 7 phablet. Don’t compromise with safety, human life is precious.

    • Google’s Nexus Smartphones to be Branded as Pixel and Pixel XL?

      alt text

Confirming the rumours, Android Police has reported that Google’s Nexus smartphone successors would be branded as Pixel and Pixel XL. It’s to be noted that Google’s upcoming smartphones are built by HTC. And as per the reports are to be believed, the search engine giant is keen on branding it as Pixel and Pixel XL instead of its flagship brand Nexus.

A rose is rose is a rose. What’s in a name? However, to be precise, Google wants to make a premium product that can easily take over Apple’s iPhone. Right now, HTC is the hardware partner for Nexus. But with the new strategy, there will be no partner at all for 2017. Will this revamping strategy help Google?

      Expected 4th October:

As per a report, Google will officially release Pixel and Pixel XL (rumoured names for ‘sailfish’ and ‘marlin’, respectively) smartphones on October 4th. However, there is no information on the location and timing of the event. Along with smartphones, 4K-capable Chromecast and Daydream VR headset will share the limelight of the event.

Based on the inputs received, the prices of Pixel smartphone will be on the higher side and will run on Android 7.0 Nougat. Rather curious, October 4th will be the next big Google day.

    • Reliance Jio 4G Launched: Free Voice Calls, Data @ Rs 50 per GB, No Roaming Charges

      Reliance Jio 4G Commercial Launch:

The ambitious Reliance Jio project is officially launched by Mukesh Ambani at the company’s Annual General Meeting today. As a welcome offer, Jio will offer its services for free to everyone from September 5 to December 31.

Jio’s free voice calls and zero roaming charges will create a history. Moreover, data @ INR 50 per GB will be the game changer. Till now, the data packs are available at INR 250 per GB. Let’s wait and analyze how the incumbent players will react to Jio’s commercial launch. With this announcement, Bharti Airtel and Idea Cellular shares were down 7 % and 11% respectively.

      Widest Coverage:

At present, Reliance Jio has a vast network covering 18,000 towns and 2 lakh villages and hopes to cover 90% of the country by March 2017. When Mukesh Ambani said that Jio will make India the highest quality lowest price data market in the world, there was an all-round applause. Truly, this data tariff is one-tenth of the rate being charged now.

Jio with the tag line ‘Digital Life’ wants to bring a revolutionary change by making data affordable to everyone. With free voice calls and zero roaming charges, Reliance Jio will be definitely a game changer in the telecom industry. Moreover, Jio has plans to roll out Fibre to the Home wired internet to 100 cities that speed up to 1Gbps.

Reliance Jio will be bringing 4LTE to every home. It will be launching new LYF phones starting at INR 2,999 and reducing the price of MiFi hotspot device to INR 1,999. As a welcome offer, Reliance Jio SIM will be available to everyone from September 5, and all the services including Jio’s app booking worth INR 15,000 annual subscription, are free to use until December 31. Finally, the company has set a target of 100 million customers in the shortest possible time.

      alt text

      Jio Tariff:

Jio tariff starts from INR 149 to INR 4,999. All the packs will offer free voice calls and Jio Apps subscription worth INR 1,210 with 28 days validity. It has been made public that the starter pack of INR 149 gives just 0.3GB of 4G data. All other packs (INR 499, INR 999, INR 1499, INR 2499, INR 3999 and INR 4,999) give free access to unlimited 4G at night.

      Smaller Packs:

As per Jio launch live updates, there are 1-day and 7-day packs that cost INR 19 and INR 49 respectively providing unlimited calls as well. Students will be getting 25% extra data when they show valid proof while signing up Jio.

In his speech, Mukesh Ambani has clearly mentioned that his company would provide data @ INR 50 per GB. But with the present tariff plans, this is clearly a distant idea. As these are prepaid plans prepared to get approval from TRAI, one can’t have detailed information on how Jio is calculating INR 50 per GB data. Hope the company would disclose post-paid tariff soon.

      alt text

While the entire market is taking about Reliance Jio, there are some other key developments happening in the telecom industry. Amid fears of Reliance Jio entry, every telecom operator is facing the heat. The earnings of all the operators are in negative figures. No one is an exception. Bharti Airtel, Vodafone India, and Idea Cellular posted negative revenue.

Amid fears of Reliance Jio entry, Telenor India has decided to exit and wind up CDMA services. It is for this reason, Telenor would not participate in the upcoming spectrum sale. With this development, all the other players would like to benefit. If the reports are to be believed, Vodafone is keen to acquire the business operations of Norwegian telecom company Telenor.

As per the spectrum details, Telenor India is contributing 36 percent Industry’s adjusted gross revenue (AGR) amounting INR 3,400 Crore from its 7 circles namely AP, Assam, Bihar, Gujarat, Maharashtra, UP (east) and UP (west). This means, 3,400 Crore is ready to be shared by the incumbent players - Airtel, Vodafone, and Idea.

      alt text

In tune with PM Narendra Modi’s ‘Make in India’ campaign, 37 mobile manufacturing plants were set up in the last year. As per the PTI news, IT minister Ravi Shankar Prasad revealed that 11 crore mobile phones were manufactured indigenously in India in last one year. Compared to the previous year’s figures, there’s a 100 percent increase in mobile devices manufacturing.

Mr Prasad was inaugurating government funded Electropreneur Park at the University of Delhi. He added that investments have generated 40,000 direct jobs and 1.25 lakh indirect employment. Starting from the Chinese companies Xiaomi and Gionee to Indian Micromax, Karbonn, Intex, Lava, MTech etc, most of the smartphone companies have set up their manufacturing plants in India.

Apart from manufacturing electronics, product designing will also be supported under Electronics Development Fund. As per the latest information, Chinese LeEco will also start mobile manufacturing unit in India.

As per the latest figures, Government of India imports over INR 3 lakh crore worth electronic goods. However, the government aims to bring this import to zero level and get a maximum benefit under the initiatives like 'Make in India’, ‘Digital India’ and ‘Startup India’.

    • Reliance Jio Preview Offer Mad Rush, Thousands Queue Up

      alt text

Though there are rumours that all 4G LTE compatible phones will get Reliance Jio Preview Offer, its official that only a few select brands are being offered JPO. Reliance Jio has now partnered Karbonn, Gionee, Lava and Xolo smartphones.

As of now, Reliance Jio has partnered with 13 brands in total. Of course, more are still in the pipeline. There’s a mad rush for getting Reliance Jio 4G sims at all Reliance Digital and Reliance DigitalXpress mini stores. It reminds us the stories of long queues outside Apple stores every year after the release of a new iPhone.

      alt text

Some call it a digital tsunami. Whatever you name it, people are queuing up for Jio SIMS in thousands in various cities across India. Apart from the long queues at Reliance Digital stores, this madness is even evident on social media as well. Whenever two or more meet, there is a discussion on Jio and people proudly share their experiences about Jio’s 4G.

Though there’s no official information about its tariff but still everyone hopes to get their hands on a Reliance Jio 4G SIM. It is to be noted that under Jio Preview Offer, every user will get unlimited HD voice calls, unlimited internet and unlimited SMS for a period of 90 days.

In fact, unlimited internet usage is the one that makes people stand in queue across the country. The existing telecom players like Airtel, Vodafone and Idea are charging INR 250 per MB of mobile data. Without any hardship, Jio is giving unlimited internet for 90 days. Surely, this is a valid reason for Reliance Jio 4G SIM.

    • How to Opt Out of WhatsApp’s Data Sharing with Facebook?

      Privacy Commitment U-turn:

WhatsApp which has more than a billion users has given a big shock to its customers. The company announced that the App will now share its user data with its parent company Facebook. This is clearly a U-turn with respect to its commitment to privacy. Now, WhatsApp can share its user’s phone numbers with Facebook for the purpose of selling ads.

When WhatsApp was brought by Facebook, everyone thought Facebook will steal this data from WhatsApp and the day has come. Though WhatsApp made it clear that they would not share the phone numbers to advertisers, but still in the name of relevant advertisements anything can be done.

Fortunately, you can still opt out of WhatsApp’s data sharing with Facebook. You have only 30 days to opt out. Here’s how you do it.

      How Can You Opt Out?

When prompted to accept the new Terms and Privacy Policy, instead of clicking ‘Agree’, tap the “Read more” tab at the bottom:

      alt text

Now you can read the Terms and Privacy Policy at your leisure. You can spend time as much as you like on it. Remember to scroll to the bottom.

      alt text

Here, you’ll see a toggle option saying WhatsApp will share info with Facebook to improve Facebook ads and products experiences. By default, the data sharing opts on (tick on). Just toggle it off. Then tap ‘Agree’. That’s it and feel relaxed!

What if I missed the warning message?

What if I missed the warning message? Don’t worry, there’s another approach to opt out of WhatsApp sharing with Facebook. Go to settings -> Account -> Share my account info and then uncheck the box.

Though you opted out of sharing info, WhatsApp can still use your data for improving its infrastructure and other integral systems. As all the text is encrypted, there is nothing to worry that Facebook will read your messages.

    • Moto E3 Power in India Soon with 3500mAh Battery

      alt text

Motorola India hints that the Moto E3 Power would be launched in India soon. Its latest tweet is a pure indication of Moto E3 Power launch in India. The teaser came just after the product was spotted on sale in Chinese special administrative region (Hong Kong) market.

The USP of Moto E3 Power is its large battery when compared to Moto E3. In fact, the teaser also highlights the same aspect. It is to be noted that Moto E3 Power sports 5-inch HD IPS display and is powered by 1GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6735P processor. With 2GB RAM and 16GB inbuilt memory, this latest smartphone can host up to 128GB space via microSD card.

Coming to imaging, it has an 8mp rear camera with LED flash and 5mp camera for selfies. Moto E3 Power runs on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow and supports 4G LTE connectivity apart from GPS, Bluetooth, and Wifi.

With Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus already on sale, this Moto E3 Power will not be an exciting game changer in the Indian market. There are a bunch of affordable phones for less than 10000 bucks but the mammoth battery of Moto E3 Power is not a rip-off.

    • Airtel and Vodafone Starts Offering Double Data Benefits

      alt text

Here’s another Jio effect! The Indian No: 1 and No: 2 telecom companies rolled out some interesting plans to protect their higher end customers. As Jio has started targeting the enterprise customers, both Airtel and Vodafone India started offering double data benefits or slashing the rates for data add-on-packs by more than 50%.

      A Price Cut:

Through an undisclosed report, Airtel has cut down the data rates for enterprise customers that are being targeted by Reliance Jio. The existing INR 250/GB will now be available at INR 99/GB. Though this is a small benefit passed on to corporate plan users, Airtel expects it to be a good move to win loyalty and thereby counter Reliance Jio strategy of luring enterprise customers.

      Double Data Benefit:

Similarly, Vodafone India announced double data benefit for its select postpaid customers for next 6 months. Say, if you are using INR 250 add-on data pack with 1GB data limit, then you will be activated with 2GB data for the same period. This is applicable to INR 250, INR 450, and INR 650 add-on data packs. Instead of the existing 1GB, 2GB, 3GB data, you’ll be provided 2GB, 4GB, and 6GB data benefit respectively.

Add-On Data Pack (in INR) Existing Data Benefit New Data Benefit
      250 1GB 2GB
      450 2GB 4GB
      650 3GB 6GB

Though the double data benefit is official, it is not clear whether this benefit is applicable to all postpaid segment or not. By following the latest developments in the telecom industry, one can easily anticipate that much-awaited commercial launch of Reliance Jio could be around a month or on December 28th.

    • Redmi Note 4 Launched - Comes with Helio X20 10-Core CPU, 4100mAh Battery, Priced at $135

      alt text

Today, Xiaomi officially launched Redmi Note 4 in China. The budget friendly Redmi series has got a new offering in the form of Redmi Note 4. This device has a premium metal body finish and is powered by Media Tek’s Deca-Core Helio X20 processor and a mammoth 4100mAh battery.

Redmi Note 4 will be available in 2 variants - 2GB RAM 16GB inbuilt storage and 3GB RAM 64GB memory expandable up to 128GV via microSD card. As expected, the device will sport a 5.5-inch full HD display with a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner. In terms of imaging, the handset will feature a 13mp rear camera and a 5mp selfie lens.

The premium metal unibody look is available in Silver, Gold and Dark Grey colour options. The mobile will be available for sale from tomorrow (August 26th) through its official Mi website and other online and offline stores. As for price, 16GB model is priced at RMB 899 (approx $135) and the 64GB Redmi Note 4 is priced at RMB 1199 (approx $180). There is no official information about its availability in other markets.

      Indian Variant Redmi 4 Note:

Due to ongoing legal battle with Ericsson, Xiaomi will have to tie-up with Qualcomm as it cannot release MediaTek powered phone in India. Similarly, the Indian version of Redmi Note 3 has 16mp rear camera instead of 13mp for its Chinese counterpart. So, one can expect a similar change in terms of a camera lens for the Indian variant.

The stock Redmi Note 4 runs on MIUI 8 based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow. With 151x76x8.35mm and 175 grams weight, this newest addition to Redmi series is indeed a powerful device sold at less than 9000 bucks. Utterly insane!

      alt text

Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) has asked its staff to switch to its own high-speed 4G telecom arm, Reliance Jio. As of now, the corporate connections are with Airtel, Vodafone, and Idea.

RIL with over 40,000 employees has explained its employees the process of Mobile Number Portability. As per the company’s HR, once the required documents are submitted, the MNP process would take around 7 days to complete the formalities.

Even though the commercial launch of Reliance Jio has been speculated from the months, Jio has been grabbing the market with its 90-day Unlimited Preview Offer. As of now, Reliance Jio has more than 1.5 million users under its large scale test phase.

      All Happiness But:

By asking its own staff, Reliance will be able to get a good number of users testing its vast range of services. The general public is very happy with the services of Reliance Jio as it has been offering unlimited data, unlimited HD voice calls, and unlimited SMS for a period of 90 days. However, it has been facing a severe problem of call drops with respect to the necessary interconnect points.

      alt text

The state-run telecom operator BSNL has revised its 3G data STV packs to offer truly unlimited mobile internet without any speed restriction. Truly unlimited in the sense without any FUP restriction.

Incredible Offer to Counter 4G Players:

With the latest revision, the existing data STV 1099 offering 9GB data of 60 days validity, will now offer unlimited 3G data for 30 days without any FUP restrictions. This new data STV will be applicable in all telecom circles with effect from 25th August 2016. This is an incredible move by BSNL to counter Rio unlimited preview offer.

Apart from data STV 1099, BSNL has also announced news data STVs such as STV 549 and STV 156. The data STV 549 offers a mammoth 10GB data for 30 days whereas the smaller denomination STV 156 will offer 2GB 3G data for a period of 10 days.

STV Free Bundled Data Validity Period (in days)
      156 2GB 10 days
      549 10GB 30 days
      1099 Unlimited 30 days

Definitely, better-bundled data packs when compared to earlier ones! As BSNL doesn’t have 4G spectrum, this low-level pricing would definitely help it to counter 4G players.
