Free Wi-Fi Promotes Not Just Tourism:
The decision was taken by Nepal Telecommunication Authority to promote tourism and provide easy flow of information during natural disasters. As per the first report, the Nepal Government is all set to provide free Wi-Fi zone at Lukla Everest Base camp and the Annapurna Base camp.
As per the revealed reports, the free Wi-Fi service will operate on the Okamura Model suggesting the usage of low-cost optical cable for high-speed internet services. Speaking on the occasion, Mr Digambar Jha, Chairman, Nepal Telecommunication Authority, said: “In the initial phase, we will set up free Wi-Fi zones along the Lukla-EBC area and Annapurna trail. We will expand this service in other areas too”.

Life @ Mount Everest:
If you are not aware of the base camp, it is located in Nepal at an altitude of 5364 metres and is used by thousands of mountain climbers to ascent and descent. Trekkers typically rest at base camp for several days to adapt to high altitude in a short period of time. This reduces the risks and severity of altitude sickness.
By setting up free Wi-Fi zone at Mount Everest Base Camp, the Nepal government will achieve twin benefits. One it can increase tourism substantially and the other to prevent man-made damage during avalanches or earthquakes. This is to note a severe earthquake measuring 7.8 magnitude struck Nepal and triggered an avalanche killing at least 19 people in its base camp.
