BSNL to Setup 6000 Towers across Northeast to Connect 8000 Plus Villages

The government-owned telecom company Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited plans to set up 6,000 towers across Northeast India in the next two years period to connect more than 8,000 villages in the region. The Union Government has got a special package for Arunachal Pradesh to develop infrastructure including telecommunication system in the Himalayan state.

BSNL for Better Connectivity:
In the recently concluded 2-day meeting at Guwahati, Mr. J.S. Deepak, Secretary, Department of Telecom (DoT) assured to connect more than 8000 villages in the region by expanding telecommunications in the state. He guaranteed to make more bandwidth available through VSAT till optical fibres are laid on an interim basis.

Bring the Internet for Digital India:
As Arunachal Pradesh has got strategic importance due to its location, more emphasis would be laid out to promote tourism and Digital India. In order to fulfill the government’s vision of Digital India, the state government proposed to bring the internet to the state expeditiously.
Moreover, the Chief Secretary of Arunachal Pradesh also proposed to waive off spectrum charges for 5 years. By providing incentives to the private operators, optical connectivity can be attained by March 2018.
The Union Government should carry out the pending projects on a war footing; otherwise, there could be a delay in the implementation of GST and other e-Governance projects. The RailTel and BSNL should complete their projects in a time bound manner.
