-
The China based Huawei is ready to start making smartphones in India by the end of this month. The news was confirmed by Economic Times. However, the press release quoted that the worlds’ third largest smartphone maker will join hands with a contract manufacturer Flextronics to build the devices locally. The company added that they would make an official announcement within a next few days.
Contract Manufacturing:
It is to be noted that Flextronics Technologies manufacturing plant located near Chennai Industrial Park is an assembling unit for other Chinese smartphone makers including Lenovo and Motorola. In the early stages, Huawei will begin manufacturing 2 lakh units a month. And would increase the production capacity as the Flextronics plant is quiet equipped to take additional orders. However, both Huawei and Flextronics didn’t respond on the latest developments.
If the reports are to be believed, Huawei would start manufacturing its best selling models such as Honor 5C or Huawei P9 from Indian facility.
Huawei India:
Huawei was one among the first few Chinese companies to start Indian operations two decades ago. The company had set up its first overseas software R&D centre in Bangalore in the year 1999. It has been serving 40 major telecom networks worldwide from its offices in India. With the latest approval, Huawei is all set to make telecom equipment including smartphones and network equipment.
With Huawei in India, many more Chinese companies like LeEco and ZTE are studying the business model and tax incentives to start make in India phone production.
