Netflix Offers Free Access for Weekend in India (A Test Trial)
-
The US streaming giant Netflix has been twisting its marketing campaign. Earlier it stopped offering free 30-day trial subscription. Now, the company is offering free access to Netflix at the weekend.
As per the company’s top executive, Netflix will start offering a free subscription to Indian users for a weekend. This is considered to be an important marketing campaign to lure Indian users towards online streaming service.
After stopping the free 30-day trial subscription, Netflix is desperately looking for innovative ways to expand its reach in the country.
Weekend Experiment Starts with India:
Accordingly, Netflix will give free access for a weekend in the subcontinent. If this strategy works out for Netflix, then the company would soon implement this free weekend experiment in other nations as well.
In fact, every Silicon Valley start-up and Chinese firms are trying their best to explore the Indian market.
Earlier, Netflix tried mobile-only monthly plan in India and later on implemented it in other markets. In a similar fashion, the company plans to keep experimenting with new ways. This was confirmed by none other than Mr Greg Peters, COO and Chief Product Officer at Netflix.
He said: “We think that giving away everyone in country access to Netflix for free for a weekend could be a great way to expose a bunch of new people to the amazing stories that we have, the service and how it works … and hopefully get a bunch of those folks to sign up.
Is Netflix only for Rich?
It is to be noted that Netflix is facing severe competition from other streaming services such as Amazon Prime, Disney+ Hotstar, Airtel Xtreme etc. There’s a notion that Netflix is for rich.
Thus, in order to stay in the business, Netflix has even partnered with Reliance Jio. As per the partnership, Netflix will provide streaming service for Reliance Jio platforms including JioFiber and Jio PostPaid plans.
