Instagram Now Handles Apple ProRAW Photos (With Some Limitations)
-
The introduction of Apple ProRAW seems to be a massive leap forward in photography. No sooner the Apple announced this powerful ProRAW feature in its flagship iPhone 12 Pro Max, Instagram started rolling out the support for it.
The American photo and video sharing social network service Instagram announced its support for Apple ProRAW photos. The iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max is incorporated with the technology close to the DSLRs.
The Apple ProRAW takes photography to the next level. The flagship iPhone users can shoot in RAW and capture as many details as possible in the Apple ProRAW format. The credit must be given to Apple’s computational photography tools like Smart HDR and Deep Fusion.
Starting today, Instagram would be able to handle sharing of Apple ProRAW photos. This was announced by none other than Instagram Developer Time Johnson in his tweet.
iPhone 12 Pro & iPhone 12 Pro Max with ProRAW Format:
The Apple iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max with iOS 14.3 or later can take snaps in Apple ProRAW. This will give greater control when editing photos as seen in DSLR RAW photography.
Till now, the Instagram iPhone users have to create a separate JPG format file to share the content on Instagram. Moreover, the average size of the ProRAW image is around 25MB. Thus, the users should turn on the ProRAW feature only when required or else it eats a lot of storage on your phone.
Compress or Lose Your Storage on iPhone:
Thus, the file size has to be compressed so as to be uploaded in Instagram social sharing platform. If you are really concerned about the size, then you can use a third-party app like Darkroom to edit ProRAW images.
Moreover, you can also edit Apple ProRAW on in the default Photos app or with other third-party apps like Halide. The Apple ProRAW gives increased control over exposure, contrast and colours.
The latest iOS update facilitates the Apple ProRAW even in the Night mode. Back to Instagram, this ProRAW support gives more flexibility to the professional photographers with their Instagram posts.
