    Xiaomi launched the Redmi 5A as Desh Ka Smartphone with an entry-level price tag of just ₹4999. Till date, the telecom companies offered entry-level experience with some basic smartphones. However, Xiaomi has got decent specs for its ultra-cheap handset.

    The Chinese telecom giant boasts an 8-day battery life for Redmi 5A preloaded with 2GB RAM, 16GB internal storage and MIUI 9. The handset is purely Made-in-India product. Interestingly, its predecessor Xiaomi Redmi 4A is still retailing at ₹5,999.

    The Indian variant of Xiaomi Redmi 5A has got a big change in the form of dedicated microSD card slot. On the counterpart, the Chinese variant has a hybrid dual-SIM slot.

    Xiaomi Redmi 5A Specifications:

    Regarding the specifications, the Xiaomi Redmi 5A sports a 5-inch HD display (720x1280 pixels) with 296 PPI pixel density. Powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 SoC, the handset comes in 2 variants - 2GB RAM/16GB ROM and 3GB RAM/32GB ROM.

    Optics wise, the Xiaomi Redmi 5A features a 13-megapixel rear camera with f/2.2 aperture, LED flash and PDAF. For selfie enthusiasts, there is a 5-megapixel lens with f/2.0 aperture.

    At this price point, all plastic body is fairly justifiable. Ergonomically, the handset looks beautiful with a metallic matte finish on the back. Connectivity wise, the Redmi 5A sports 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth v4.1, GPS, Infrared, micro USB port etc.

    Though it looks downgraded with respect to the battery, the 3000mAh battery is touted to deliver up to 8 days of standby time and 7 hours of video playback. Keeping up with the trend, Redmi 5A runs on MIUI 9 based on Android Nougat.

    Xiaomi Redmi 5A Price in India:

    Though the 2GB variant is priced at ₹5999, Xiaomi has given ₹1000 discount for the first 5 million units. With this pricing (₹4999) Redmi 5A becomes the cheapest Xiaomi smartphone in Indian market. Starting December 7th at 12 pm, the handset will be available for sale through Flipkart, Mi.com and Mi Home stores across the country.

    One can grab the Desh ka smartphone in Dark Grey, Gold, and Rose Gold color options.

    Xiaomi Redmi 5A – Reliance Jio 199 Plan:

    Reliance Jio has got a tie-up with Xiaomi. Under this “Better Together Offer", Redmi 5A smartphone will get a new Reliance Jio plan at just ₹199. Under this plan, the user will get free unlimited calling (local and STD), 1GB 4G data per day and unlimited SMS with a validity of 28 days. Moreover, one can enjoy free subscription to Jio apps.

    Incidentally, this plan is better than Jio Phone plan being offered at ₹153 including free calls, 500MB data per day and 300 SMS. Time will only answer whether Reliance Jio Redmi 5A plan will be extended to other smartphones in the market.

    Furthermore, the Redmi 5A buyers with Reliance Jio SIM will get additional ₹1000 cashback. With this offer, the Xiaomi Redmi 5A price will effectively come down to just ₹3999. However, there are some terms and conditions to be followed.

    In order to get ₹1000 cashback, the Reliance Jio subscribers will have to recharge with ₹199 plan continuously for 12 months. Then, the user will get 10 cashback vouchers each of ₹100 value. These vouchers will be automatically credited to the user’s Reliance Jio account.

    The Reliance Jio subscriber can check the info under My Vouchers section in MyJio app. The user can redeem this ₹100 voucher for recharging with ₹309 and above. It can also be redeemed on add-on packs of ₹201and above. Keep a note that the validity of these cashback vouchers is until November 30, 2017.
